5 Tips for Setting Achievable New Year Goals for Pole and Aerial Fitness

The beginning of a new year provides the perfect opportunity for pole and aerial fitness enthusiasts to set exciting goals for their fitness journey. Here are five key steps to establish achievable New Year goals:

1. Define Clear Objectives

Start by pinpointing what you want to achieve in your pole and aerial fitness journey. Whether it’s mastering a specific move, enhancing flexibility, or building strength, clarity in your objectives is crucial. It can even be something small such as getting up to that fifth push up during conditioning or attending class at least once a week. Make sure your goals are challenging but also realistic. Just because one person might set a goal to master an advanced level move, does not mean you have to follow. Set your goals to what fits you because every step in your journey is a big one!

2. Break Goals into Milestones

Divide your primary goals into smaller, manageable milestones. These sub-goals make the larger objectives less intimidating and more attainable. For example, if your goal is to conquer a complex aerial move, outline the intermediate steps to reach it. As we already said, each step accomplished (no matter how big or small) is worth celebrating! This will also help you understand where you are and what you need to work on in order to achieve your goals.

3. Develop a Structured Training Plan

Create a training plan that aligns with your goals. Decide on the frequency of your practice sessions, focus areas, and the specific exercises or routines to include. A well-structured plan ensures consistency in your training. Our mantra has probably already been programmed into your brains, but remember: Everyone progresses at their own pace! Your training plan is your own and is meant for you.

4. Track Progress and Stay Consistent

Keep a training journal to document your achievements and monitor your progress. This tool not only motivates you but also allows for adjustments in your training regimen. Remember, consistency is key. As much as we’d love to get our aerial invert on the first try, we know mastering the next move means building on the foundation. Life can get busy, so adjust your training and listen to your body. Rest is also part of training!

5. Prioritize Safety and Seek Support

While pushing your limits is vital, prioritize safety and correct form to prevent injuries. If your goals are ambitious, consider seeking guidance from professional instructors or coaches. Their expertise can enhance your journey while keeping it safe. Our instructors are always on hand to answer any questions and help you throughout your aerial journey. Finding yourself an “accountability buddy” might also prove useful–friends makes for great support in class and there’s always a Belle that will be happy to help lift you up when you need that extra push (literally!).

Setting New Year goals for your pole and aerial fitness journey is a fantastic way to challenge yourself and evolve in your practice. By defining clear objectives, breaking them into manageable milestones, and staying consistent with your training plan, you’ll find yourself progressing and embracing your passion for these dynamic and captivating forms of exercise.
